Exhibition "The Era of Neizvestny. On the 100th Anniversary of the Artist"
About exhibition
The State Tretyakov Gallery presents the exhibition "The Era of Neizvestny," dedicated to the work of Ernst Iosifovich Neizvestny (1925–2016). In 2025 the artist's 100th birthday will be celebrated, and this large-scale exhibition will serve as a fitting conclusion to the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Victory, highlighting Neizvestny’s contribution — as a front-line soldier, officer, and recipient of combat decorations — not only to art but to the history of the country. The exhibition offers the most complete overview of Neizvestny’s work and is organized into four sections: "War Is...", "Neizvestny in the Manege", "Gigantomachia", and "Tree of Life", exhibiting sculpture, works on paper, and paintings from museum and private collections. In 1999 the Tretyakov Gallery held an exhibition of Neizvestny’s illustrations for the Book of Job, but the present project reveals for the first time the evolution of the artist’s visual language. Visitors will be able to see works such as "Mulatto" and "Portrait of Day Laborer Beisbary", "Orpheus" (since 1994 established as the prestigious award of the TEFI television prize), "Cosmonaut", "Female Torso" and many others. The exhibition will be held at Krymsky Val 10, halls 39–42.
