The State Tretyakov Gallery presents an exhibition devoted to the work of Elizaveta Sergeevna Kruglikova (1865–1941) — an outstanding artist, innovator and teacher who played a major role in the development of etching, silhouettes and monotypes in Russia. Kruglikova’s creative life spanned two worlds — Paris and Russia. In the early 20th century she became an important figure in the artistic milieu of the French capital: she taught compatriots the technique of etching, and her studio was one of the cultural centers of Russian Paris. From the 1920s Kruglikova headed the Leningrad school of etching and taught the technique at the Academy of Arts. The exhibition will introduce viewers to the work of the printmaker and master etcher Elizaveta Kruglikova and artists who belonged to her circle, her friends and pupils: M. A. Voloshin, A. S. Golubkina, I. S. Efimov, N. Ya. Simonovich-Efimova, M. V. Dobuzhinsky, G. S. Vereysky, M. V. Nesterov and others. In six halls more than 200 works will be presented from the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery, its branches and private collections: engravings, drawings and watercolors, paintings, sculpture and small-scale sculptural works, silhouettes and monotypes, demonstrating the diversity of the creative life inspired by the artist.
