Exhibition 'Carriages in the Museum Collection'
About exhibition
The exhibition presents a collection of 18th-century ceremonial carriages of English workmanship. The elite vehicles on display are connected with the history of the Sergiev Posad region and the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius. The uniqueness of the exhibition is that such coaches have survived in almost single examples and are rightfully considered the pride of the Sergiev Posad State Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve's collection. One of these rare carriages has memorial significance: it is a carriage that belonged to prominent Russian statesmen — Emperor Paul I and Metropolitan Platon (Levshin) of Moscow. The carriage was bequeathed to Metropolitan Platon by Emperor Paul I. For the emperor, Platon Levshin was a spiritual advisor and teacher; in gratitude Paul gifted Platon the carriage on which the metropolitan made ceremonial journeys. The exhibition is complemented by items of palace interiors from the 17th–19th centuries, including furniture, formal portraits and objects of decorative and applied arts. More details – via the link.
