Exhibition 'The Ancient Bells of Veliky Novgorod'
About exhibition
Visitors will have the opportunity to view the St. Sophia belfry, located in the northeastern part of the Detinets. The bell tower was laid down by Archbishop Evfimy II in 1455. The exhibition inside the belfry and on special structures in front of it features 12 cathedral bells that have survived to the present day, as well as bells from other Novgorod churches and monasteries. In the two northern bays of the belfry visitors will see 18 bells cast in the 1990s–2000s and one bell from the late 19th–early 20th century. In addition, an observation platform has been arranged on the ringing tier, offering a panoramic view of the banks of the Volkhov River, Yaroslav's Court (Yaroslavovo Dvorishche), the Yuriev Monastery and St. Sophia Cathedral.
