Exhibition "Ancient Russian and Church Art"
About exhibition
The hall introduces ancient Russian and church art from the 15th to the early 20th century from the museum's collection. The exhibition features icon painting, antique icon covers (oklady), small-scale sculptures and Old Believer copper castings, and carved wooden sculpture. The exhibits also include manuscript and early printed books, goldwork embroidery and vestments. The collection of ancient Russian art contains a number of valuable and rare works. Visitors to the exhibition will learn about the development of ancient Russian culture — how themes and images in icons and ritual objects changed — and will gain an understanding of how art transformed over more than 500 years. The exhibition features the Artefact multimedia guide. This app presents the hall's exhibits in an interactive way: the history of the objects, unusual solutions by icon painters and other interesting details hidden from the casual observer. The app is free to use, but it must be installed on your mobile device before visiting the hall.
