Exhibition "Ancient History of the Omsk Irtysh Region"
About exhibition
Visitors will learn which people first — 14,500 years ago — appeared in the area (the Chernoozerye II site), what their dwellings were like, how and what they hunted, and what tools they used; they will also form an understanding of Stone Age beliefs. The section devoted to the Bronze Age (35th/33rd–13th/11th centuries BC) presents the tools of ancient metalworkers and splendid metal objects: spears, sickles, and axe-celts produced in their workshops. The Early Iron Age section (9th/7th centuries BC – 1st century AD) describes the life of the Sargat and Kulay archaeological cultures. A highlight of the archaeological collection is the Kulay ritual cast metalwork in the form of birds, animals, and people. Visitors can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of medieval daily life by seeing a reconstruction of a semi-subterranean dwelling with a recreated interior. The exhibition concludes with sections on the state of the Siberian Tatars — the Siberian Khanate — and on the first Russian settlers in the region.
