Exhibition 'Roads of War – Roads of Victory'

About exhibition

The year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory of 1945 has arrived. Several generations now separate us from those tragic and heroic years. The Hall of Military Glory of the Zernograd Historical and Local History Museum was opened on February 4, 1978. The collected materials on the Great Patriotic War — documents, awards, photographs, interviews, and informational panels — shed light on the district's turbulent life during the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945. More than 16,000 people went to the front; over 6,000 of them fell heroically on the battlefields; ten became Heroes of the Soviet Union, and D.D. Lelyushenko, a native of the village of Novo-Kuznetsovka, became an Army General and a twice Hero of the Soviet Union. Underground detachments and groups operated in the district. Pavel Kolodin's detachment was the most active in fighting the occupiers. Eighteen Zernograd residents were executed by the Nazis in the city park. The hall's panels and display cases present information about the units and formations that liberated the Zernograd district in the harsh January of 1943. Many streets in the city were named in memory of these events. Zernograd was rightfully called the 'city of hospitals.' Thousands of wounded Soviet soldiers were treated here and regained strength after their battle wounds. Memory is an important virtue of a nation. It helps younger generations know and understand important moments of truth, without which there is no future.
