Exhibition «The Virgin, the Tree and Death. And Life Again. The Gospel Images of Sergey Antonov»
About exhibition
Sergey Sergeevich Antonov is one of the outstanding contemporary Russian sculptors, whose works are held in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the New Jerusalem Museum, and in Moscow churches (the Church of St. Nicholas in Golutvin, the Intercession Church of the Andreev Monastery, the Church of St. Antipas of Pergamum on Kolymazhny Dvor and the adjoining garden, which has become a popular gathering place for Orthodox youth). The exhibition presents the artist's works exclusively on biblical, Gospel themes: stone and wooden crosses, crucifixes, a Deesis, scenes of the Nativity and the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem, the Descent from the Cross, and Jacob's Ladder. Despite widespread recognition, this is the artist's first monographic exhibition in nearly 70 years of his life.
