Exhibition "The Childhood and Youth of the Romantic A.S. Grin"

About exhibition

The A. S. Grin Museum is located in a one-story stone house with a mezzanine, built to a design by architect E. K. Nyukvist in 1908. The building is 116 years old. It stands on the site of the estate of the soldier’s widow Ivanova, from whom the Grinevsky family rented an outbuilding. The museum building is a federal-level historical and cultural monument. The permanent exhibition comprises four exhibition halls. In the "Children's Room" and the "Living Room" a permanent display presents the childhood and family life of A. S. Grin. The rooms recreate the typical interior of a lower-ranking civil servant’s family, showing memorial items from the Grinevsky family and furniture from the late 19th century. The exhibition contains items that belonged to the Grinevsky family and have never been shown before, including household utensils and a postcard from the family album. Most of these objects were donated to the museum in 1977 by O. M. Grinevskaya, the widow of A. S. Grin’s younger brother. Exhibition halls No. 3 and No. 4 host temporary exhibitions dedicated to the lives and works of outstanding local writers and well-known Russian authors of the late 19th–20th centuries.
