Exhibition "Village Life"

About exhibition

The exhibition presents the evolution of the Chuvash village through the changing form of houses, tools and household objects. It examines the interior of an izba and the place of each item in the home, as well as the positioning of the house within the street layout. Visitors will find answers to many questions: in which season people worked at the weaving loom; what materials lapti (bast shoes) were made from and how tuesas (birch-bark containers) were made; when the grain was harvested, etc. Visitors will be invited to grind rye with a hand mill, cook porridge in the oven and bake bread, and to learn to spin yarn from sheep's wool.
