Exhibition 'A Time for Work — An Hour for Play. Artistic Woodworking. Textiles'
About exhibition
The exhibition showcases the talents of craftsmen not only from the Murmansk Region (Murmansk, Nikel, Kandalaksha, Olenegorsk), but also from other Russian cities (Vologda, Cherepovets, Nizhny Novgorod, Kargopol). The display is divided into two main sections. The first section occupies the greater part of the hall and mainly consists of utilitarian objects—items that might have been found in a peasant household: a weaving loom, a spinning wheel, a distaff, a fulling roller, a washboard, a saddle tree (sedlovishche), a stamping tool (naboyka), an uda, a box and kitchen utensils. The second section is noticeably smaller and is devoted to objects used for leisure, primarily by children: panki, sharkunki, toy horses, small wooden (splint) birds, and trinkets. Both themes are skillfully interwoven in additional parts of the exhibition devoted to root and birch-bark weaving and to wood painting.
