Exhibition «Oral Toponyms of Chusovoy»
About exhibition
Exhibition «Chusovoy Toponyms» – about local geographic names that are preserved exclusively in oral speech. In 2022–2023 the museum, together with teenage volunteers, collected 122 Chusovoy oral toponyms: from Arinina Hill to Yamka, and an interesting fact emerged: toponyms are born, live and, unfortunately, die. Together with townspeople the most well-known intra-city names were recorded. A book was then published, and as a result of the project a traveling exhibition was assembled, telling who lives in Kvadrat and where Kobyliy Log, Telyachy Brod and Sobachya Polyana came from. The main aim of the exhibition is not only to present Chusovoy oral toponyms to the audience but also to highlight the rapid changes in spoken language and how historical events are reflected in it.
