The exhibition tells the story of the occupation and liberation of Tarusa. On 24 October 1941, motorized units of the 260th Infantry Division of the Wehrmacht swept into the town. Black days of occupation followed, which lasted 56 days. Sheets bearing the sinister swastika and orders from the German commandant's office appeared on house walls and fences. Popular memory has forever preserved the monstrous crimes committed by the enemy. On 19 December 1941, at dawn, fighters of the 160th Separate Battalion of the 5th Guards Rifle Division entered Tarusa. They were assisted by the 'snow cavalry' — the skiers of the 41st Cadet Brigade. The exhibition will feature items of military equipment, components of weapons and ammunition. Children will examine identification medallions (dog tags) of Soviet and German soldiers and see their differences; they will learn how to fold frontline triangular letters, which were a form of soldiers' correspondence during the Great Patriotic War. Finally, a quiz on the material covered will be held for the children.
