The centerpiece of the entire exhibition space is undoubtedly the first edition of the book "Sakhalin Island" (1895). The exhibition's content, chapter by chapter, recounts the events of the penal period in Sakhalin's history as reflected in the book "Sakhalin Island." It features important details about A. P. Chekhov's preparation for the journey, the organization of penal labor and exile, life in the settlements, the island's healthcare, the organization of agricultural work and fishing, and the indigenous inhabitants of Sakhalin Island.
