Visitors to the ensemble exhibition will see many traces of the past and discover objects that were indispensable attributes of the Soviet era. Here you can also trace the history of items that have survived to our days. In 1974–84 the average age of the mainline builders was 25, so in the “BAM worker’s room” you will see a guitar — a symbol of that time. Many songs were written and sung to the guitar about the beauty and romance of the harsh region, about the conquerors of the taiga, about love and loyalty. Komsomol members who arrived at the construction of the century wore protective-coloured jackets — “shtormovki” or “bamovki” — which signaled belonging to the special “caste” of construction squad members and were a pride of BAM youth. Such a jacket is on display. A pennant — a type of flag — hangs on the wall tapestry; it was an important and honorary award for builders for active work, labor achievements and sporting successes. During the intensive construction of the BAM, when it was difficult to obtain furniture, many craftsmen made improvised wall units from Finnish plywood; books, dishes and other everyday items were placed on their shelves.
