Exhibition "Gods and Heroes of Ancient Rus'"
About exhibition
This exhibition is the heart of the Museum of Slavic Mythology. The Museum's history began with it, and to this day it remains a focal point for visitors. It is a private art collection of paintings, graphic works and decorative-applied pieces by contemporary Russian artists who have lived and worked over the past 50 years. At the center of each work's narrative is a Slavic deity, an inhabitant of the "underworld", an episode from the bogatyr epic, a piece of folk folklore, or an Old Rus' hero who once really lived. The subject of each painting is accompanied by an extensive historical note about the work itself and the character depicted. It is a bridge to the past — an opportunity to talk about the traditions, beliefs, everyday life and rituals of our ancestors. The art collection is complemented by applied art exhibits, as well as antique objects and traditional folk costumes. They can be touched: try on a real knight's chain mail, work the blacksmith's bellows, or turn the millstones. https://slav-museum.ru/contests/bogi-i-geroi-drevney-rusi/
