Exhibition «...The Sparkle of Crystal and the Fineness of Facets...». Russian glass of the 18th – early 20th centuries
About exhibition
Carving, grinding, engraving — methods of cold-working glass that demand experience, virtuosity and jeweller-like precision from the craftsman. The exhibition intends to show the evolution of the art of glass carving in Imperial Russia, as well as the variety of techniques for mechanically treating glass surfaces. The chronological scope spans from the emergence of the first industrial glassworks in the 18th century to the 1917 Revolution. The exhibition will mainly feature works from the Imperial Glass Factory — the country's leading enterprise, whose activities shaped the main trends in the development of glassmaking in the Russian Empire.
