Exhibition «Arctic. The Pole of Color»
About exhibition
The State Tretyakov Gallery presents a large-scale exhibition project “Arctic. The Pole of Color,” dedicated to the artistic interpretation of the northern latitudes in Russian art. The exhibition, spanning the period from the 18th century to the present, reflects the evolution of perceptions of the northern edge: from romanticized images to documentary records of the region’s exploration and contemporary artistic interpretations. The show includes more than 130 works in various genres and techniques. The display will feature painting, graphic art, sculpture, photography, ethnographic artifacts, and multimedia installations. Among the exhibits are miniature bone icons of the 18th–19th centuries, works by the first artist-travelers to the Arctic—Alexander Borisov and Konstantin Korovin—as well as works by Soviet and contemporary artists, including participants of polar expeditions: Fyodor Reshetnikov, Mitrofan Beringov, and Igor Ruban. The exhibition will take place at Kadashevskaya Embankment, 12, 1st floor.
