Exhibition 'Gorgippia Archaeological Reserve'
About exhibition
The Anapa Archaeological Museum is the custodian of a unique example of ancient cultural heritage of southern Russia — the archaeological reserve 'Gorgippia'. Exhibition objects at the excavation site include: a section of residential quarters in the northeastern part of the ancient city with a well-preserved layout of houses from the Hellenistic and Roman periods and three ancient paved streets — Shirokaya (Wide), Severnaya (Northern) and Poperechnaya (Transverse); Roman-era wine-production complexes; and part of the defensive citadel from the late antique period. On the area next to the excavation there is a lapidarium of monumental stone objects: sarcophagi, tombstones, and architectural and construction elements. In the building located on the reserve's grounds, the Anapa Archaeological Museum presents the exhibition 'Ancient City of Gorgippia', introducing visitors to the history of the ancient city and the artifacts discovered during the excavations.
