Exhibition "Archaeological Finds: A New Look at the History of Vologda"
About exhibition
More than 70 items from various historical sites of the city are on display. The earliest exhibits, dating from the 13th–15th centuries, were found by archaeologists at the Vologda settlement site — the ancient center of the city. Many are imported items (jewelry, ceramics) from different regions. A unique object is a jeweler's scale from the late 13th century, used to weigh coins and valuables. Visitors can see photographs from the latest excavations and also view exhibits from the 16th–18th centuries that illustrate the everyday life of Vologda residents during that historical period. These include examples of leather goods. In February 2025, during restoration and construction work in the Economic Building, documents (scrolls) from the 17th–mid-18th centuries belonging to the Vologda Bishop's House were found. One of these documents is presented in the exhibition. The exhibition is available for viewing only as part of organized groups.
