Exhibition “Archaeology of the Sergiev Posad Region”
About exhibition
The Sergiev Posad Museum‑Reserve presents the exhibition “Archaeology of the Sergiev Posad Region.” It is the result of the museum’s archaeological work over the past 40 years. The exhibition features more than 500 items — rare monuments from the Stone Age to the Early Middle Ages recovered during the museum’s archaeological expeditions in Sergiev Posad and neighboring areas. The displays tell the centuries‑long history of the region, showcasing unique collections of tools, household objects, pottery and works of art from the earliest eras. Some artifacts are on display for the first time. Among them are a fragment of a mammoth tusk; tools made from beaver jaws from Stone Age sites; stone axes from the Bronze Age; bronze rattling ornaments; and stone casting molds for producing bronze items from a Finno‑Ugric burial ground of the Early Iron Age. Individual finds are supplemented by tool reconstructions, illustrations and scale models.
