Exhibition "Archaeology of Primorye"
About exhibition
In ancient and medieval times the territory of Primorsky Krai transformed from a wild, unexplored land—where no human foot had trod—into a place inhabited by people with their own spiritual and material culture, customs, language, beliefs and distinctive ways of daily and economic life. Adapting to changing environmental conditions, developing and creating new tools and methods of obtaining food, mastering new trades and crafts and forming new customs, humans settled in this area rich in natural resources. Over time some tribes replaced others, wars destroyed old states and new ones arose in their place; the culture of the indigenous inhabitants was passed on to descendants, changing and being transformed. The exhibition introduces the history of the peoples who inhabited Primorye and consists of six chronologically arranged sections: Paleolithic. Neolithic. Bronze Age. Iron Age. The Mohe tribes and the Bohai state. The Jin Empire and the Dong Xia state. Each period is represented by objects reflecting the spiritual and material world of the region's inhabitants. Among them are unique exhibits—ethnographic monuments of world significance: fossilized remains of Ice Age animals from the Geographical Society cave, bronze daggers and the mirror of the chief of the Votzyuy tribe, and seals of officials of the Jin Empire.
