Exhibition «Arkhangelsk: 19th – early 20th centuries»

About exhibition

In 2024 Arkhangelsk celebrates its 440th anniversary. In honor of this milestone the Arkhangelsk Regional Museum of Local History is opening a new section of its permanent historical exhibition dedicated to the history of Arkhangelsk in the 19th – early 20th centuries. Museum visitors will see authentic objects, photographs, documents, paintings and graphic works that illustrate different aspects of life in old Arkhangelsk. Municipal administration, trade and industry, urban development and transport, population composition, culture and everyday life — the new exhibition will cover all of these topics. In addition, visitors will learn more about the people who worked productively for the benefit of the city and the governorate at various levels: officials, merchants, entrepreneurs, religious figures, military personnel, architects, sawmill workers, craftsmen, scientists, ethnographers, Arctic researchers, and others. This section of the exhibition will close the block of display themes devoted to the city's history up to the beginning of the 20th century.
