Exhibition "Aport" from Simbirsk
About exhibition
The exhibition project presents one aspect of the economic development of the Simbirsk Governorate — horticulture — and reveals the role of the apple in the lives of urban and rural populations of the Middle Volga region. One characteristic of Volga orchards was the presence of local and diverse varietal composition. The "Aport" variety was noted by the Russian Emperor Alexander I during his stay in Simbirsk and was supplied to the imperial table. This story served as the basis for the exhibition project's title. The display features more than 30 museum items from the collection of the Museum-Reserve "Homeland of V. I. Lenin." The key exhibit is a graphic work by O. G. Vereysky, "Summer — the Golden Time," from the series "The Childhood and Youth of Volodya Ulyanov." A separate section presents familiar household items with decorative finishes: a teapot, teacup sets, vases, and a tray depicting apples. Visitors can also see notes by Simbirsk gardeners made at the beginning of the 20th century.
