About exhibition
The Russian National Museum of Music, together with the Foundation for the Preservation and Development of the Creative Heritage of Andrei Petrov (Saint Petersburg) and the State Central Museum of Cinema (Moscow), presents an exhibition dedicated to composer Andrei Pavlovich Petrov (1930–2006) — the pride and glory of the Northern Capital, an honorary citizen of Saint Petersburg, who led the Leningrad Union of Composers for more than 40 years. Andrei Petrov earned nationwide recognition primarily for his music for popular films. However, Dmitri Shostakovich, who valued his work highly, said of him: 'I am impressed by his productive work in a variety of genres.' Petrov wrote two operas, five ballets, two operettas, a musical, orchestral and chamber-instrumental works, vocal cycles, songs and pieces for a stage/pop orchestra, music for 14 dramatic productions and about a hundred films. The three sections of the exhibition present the multifaceted personality of Andrei Petrov and introduce his works in musical theatre and cinema.
