Exhibition 'Afghanistan, You Are the Pain of My Soul...'
About exhibition
Exhibition dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. The exhibition features: weapons, soldiers' personal belongings, photographs. The war in Afghanistan lasted a full 10 years, from 1979 to 1989. Very young men bravely fulfilled their military duty. The events of those years will forever remain an unhealed wound. The final decision on the complete withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan was made at the Politburo meeting of the CPSU Central Committee on January 25, 1989, and published the next day with the wording 'The Soviet Union will remain faithful to the Geneva Accords.' After that, USSR Minister of Defense Dmitry Yazov visited Kabul. The final stage of troop withdrawal took place in January – the first half of February 1989. Original items from the museum's collections are on display: a helmet, a tank intercom headset, a load-bearing pouch, a dosimeter, a camouflage net, soldiers' personal items: mugs, flasks, clothing items and much more.
