Exhibition '30 and 1 Female Portrait'
About exhibition
'30 and 1 Female Portrait' is the title of a new exhibition held within the walls of a merchant's manor. Portraits of women from the 19th century are a unique source for studying the beauty ideals of that period. Artists sought to capture not only external attractiveness but also the inner harmony of their subjects. The expansion of education for women led to the emergence of a new model type, distinguished not only by outward beauty but also by intellect. The female intelligentsia became an object of study and inspiration for artists, which was reflected in portrait painting. The exhibition will show the variety of women's images in the national artistic tradition of the 19th–early 20th centuries, offering a view of female nature and identity in that period. The museum space will feature paintings by well-known Russian artists: B. M. Kustodiev, K. A. Savitsky, N. A. Lavrov, as well as graphic portraits and engravings by foreign authors.
