About exhibition
The exhibition is dedicated to the history of the development of uniforms and equipment of the armed forces of the Russian state from the founding of the regular army by Peter the Great to the present day. Visitors to the museum will learn what place the uniform held in the life of a serviceman, how the very notion—the 'honour of the uniform'—arose and why among professional soldiers it is inseparable from the image of the defender of the Fatherland. The exhibition is housed in 22 halls within the walls of an old 19th-century city manor. The core of the exhibition complex consists of museum items of uniforms and equipment of the Imperial Russian Army, the Soviet Army and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, archival materials, and reconstructions of military dress made on the basis of original specimens preserved in museum collections. The exhibition is both modern and extensive, aimed at adults and children alike; its distinctive feature is the combination of authentic exhibits with modern multimedia technologies that provide open and effective access to information on the history of the Russian military uniform from the 16th to the 21st centuries.
