Lines of Military Valor of the Kaluga Region

About exhibition

In 2025 the country marks the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. On the eve of this celebration, the Kaluga United Museum-Reserve, together with the Legislative Assembly of the Kaluga Region, is opening an exhibition dedicated to the towns and lines of military valor. The Kaluga region fully bore the burden of the war. Our land, as has often been the case in its history, served as a kind of shield on the road to Moscow. The land of Kaluga became the site of the highest feats of our people. In memory of this, certain settlements in the region bear honorary titles as lines, cities, and settlements of military valor. To perpetuate the memory of Russian soldiers who distinguished themselves in battles that played a significant role in the history of the Fatherland, deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Kaluga Region on July 1, 2013 adopted the Law of the Kaluga Region on conferring the honorary titles Settlement of Military Valor and Line of Military Valor. According to the law, the honorary title is granted to settlements on whose territory, or in the immediate vicinity of which, fierce battles took place in which the defenders of the Fatherland displayed courage, steadfastness and mass heroism. The Kaluga Region honorary title Line of Military Valor is assigned simultaneously to several settlements whose events are historically connected. By 2025 the honorary title had been bestowed upon 8 cities and 10 lines. Two more cities — Kozelsk and Maloyaroslavets — were awarded the honorary title City of Military Glory. The exhibition features all the lines and cities of military valor, from the Ilyinsky lines to the Gnezdilovsky heights. It displays unique documentary records and photographic materials, items from battle sites, as well as personal belongings of battle participants.
