Program 'Five Museums in Staraya Russa'
About exhibition
The Novgorod Museum-Reserve offers a unique opportunity to visit five exhibitions in Staraya Russa: The memorial exhibition of the F. M. Dostoevsky House-Museum displays personal belongings of the writer and his family. Here you can soak up the atmosphere of the 19th century and learn about Dostoevsky's life and the period he spent in Staraya Russa. The Museum of the novel 'The Brothers Karamazov' tells the story of the novel's creation, its thematic content, major milestones in the author's biography, his circle, and the social life of the 19th century. The exhibition features everyday items, books, furniture, postcards, and photographs from the 19th to the early 20th century. The Local History Museum, located within the architectural ensemble of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky (Transfiguration) Monastery, presents the earliest history of Staraya Russa, archaeological finds, local culture, and traditions. The Art Gallery (housed in the Local History Museum) preserves works by Old Russian artists, many of whom became prominent figures. The Museum of the Northwestern Front is dedicated to the events of the Great Patriotic War and contains exhibits that tell of the courage of Soviet soldiers and officers and the liberation of Staraya Russa from the German-Fascist invaders.
