Permanent exhibitions of the Murmansk Regional Museum of Local Lore
About exhibition
The museum's exhibitions tell the history of the Murmansk region from ancient times: when people first came here and how they lived, what tools they used, and why mysterious labyrinths were built along the seashores. Here you can learn about the life of the indigenous peoples of the North—the Sámi: see authentic examples of traditional clothing, household items, and tools. Visitors will find 14 thematic halls that tell the story of the Murmansk region from its earliest times to the present day; interactive and multimedia elements that make a visit engaging and informative; genuine objects reflecting the richness of the Arctic region's nature and culture; and new exhibitions developed in line with modern museum standards that reveal the uniqueness of the Murmansk region through the lens of history, ecology, and technology. The museum offers not only an educational but also an inspiring experience that helps to better understand the Arctic—its past, present, and future. It is the ideal place to feel connected to the history of a region that plays a key role in the development of Russia's Arctic zone.
