Permanent exhibition "Western European Art"
About exhibition
The "Western European Art" exhibition comprises more than 60 works. The collection gives a vivid picture of historical and cultural periods such as the Northern Renaissance ("The Torments of Saint Catherine", 16th century — the earliest original), the Italian Renaissance ("The Holy Family with Saint John the Baptist" by A. del Sarto, "Venus before the Mirror" by Titian, "The Abduction of Europa" by P. Veronese (copies)), Dutch, Flemish and Italian art of the 17th century ("The Musician" by B. Strozzi, "Grotto with Goats" by R. da Tivoli, "Still Life with a Hare" by J. Fyt, "Woman with a Bottle" by F. Verheijen), and artistic movements such as Baroque ("Concert" by K. Vanloo), Classicism, Rococo ("The Assumption of Mary" by P. Batoni), Neoclassicism ("Landscape with Ruins" by G. Robert), Romanticism ("Woman with the Organ Grinder" by D. Induno, "Turk with a Hookah" by O. Vernet), Realism (subject matter) and Impressionism (painterly technique) as seen in "Autumn Visit" by G. Hyüklenbrock. The hall also exhibits sculpture from Western European countries representing Baroque ("Jesus Christ and John the Baptist" — anonymous, "Madonna and Child" — anonymous), Classicism ("Cupid and Psyche" by A. Canova, "The Three Graces" by M. Moreau (copies)), Realism ("Portrait of a Young Woman" by Schumacher, "Indian on Horseback" by F. Remington (copy)), and Romanticism ("Marguerite" — anonymous, "Entry into Jerusalem" by J. L. Gérôme). There are also several interior furnishings — a study (Baroque, Italy, 17th century), a bureau (Classicism, France, early 19th century), and a console (Classicism, Europe, 19th century).
