Permanent exhibition "Russian Art"
About exhibition
The renovated exhibition presents a vivid picture of the development paths of Russian visual art at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries, marked by the emergence of new directions and movements that reflect a more complex perception of the surrounding world. The exhibition opens with works devoted to the Caucasian War and depictions of Dagestan in the works of Russian artists. These are paintings from the collections of Prince L. I. Baryatinsky and the Caucasian Military-Historical Museum "Temple of Glory" in Tbilisi. The scientific and artistic significance of the works by artists who sought new expressive possibilities within the realist painting system is indisputable. The section introduces the work of masters whose activities were associated with the major artistic associations: the Peredvizhniki (The Itinerants), Mir Iskusstva (World of Art), and the Union of Russian Artists. The hall also displays an exhibition "Russian Avant-Garde." The exhibition is complemented by works by the leading sculptors of the era: M. Antokolsky, E. Lansere, P. Trubetskoy, S. Konenkov, and others.
