Permanent exhibition 'Domestic Fine Art of the 20th Century'
About exhibition
The permanent exhibition 'Domestic Fine Art of the 20th Century' from the BGHM collections reopens in an updated form after a one-year break. The re-exposition of this period was prompted by the fact that the museum's holdings were supplemented with a large number of new and interesting works, including pieces from the 20th century. The new exhibition is chronologically divided into two large periods: the first and second halves of the 20th century. Visitors will be able to see one hundred and fifty works of painting and sculpture from the museum collection. Among the authors are outstanding masters of the past century: A. Kuprin, A. Osmerkin, D. Nalbandyan, Yu. Pimenov, S. Gerasimov, A. Tsigal, D. Yakerson, and others. The second half of the century will be organized according to a thematic principle designed to most vividly and convincingly reflect the lives of people in the Soviet and post‑Soviet eras in thematic blocks: 'History of Russia', 'The Severe Style', 'Urban everyday life: childhood, youth, maturity', 'Rural life of the country, national color', 'Soviet industry, the great construction projects of the country, working people'. Sculptural works intended for display will be placed in the exhibition within chronological frameworks according to thematic and compositional-narrative principles, in accordance with the themes of the painting sections. Although the 20th-century sculpture section is an independent department, together with the paintings it forms a conceptual and spatial unity.
