Permanent Exhibition of the Nenets Local History Museum
About exhibition
The permanent exhibition of the Nenets Local History Museum gives a comprehensive and vivid picture of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. It introduces the biodiversity of the Arctic region not only in the present day but also in prehistoric times. The museum houses interesting paleontological specimens that allow visitors to see the history of life in the territory of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug — from the simplest single-celled organisms to highly organized vertebrate animals. Part of the exhibition is devoted to geological exploration and mineral extraction; it displays the museum's extensive geological collection and conveys an impression of the region's mineral wealth. Visitors can also learn about the material and spiritual culture of the inhabitants of the European tundra at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries, primarily the Nenets people. It enables one to trace the historical path the region has followed from the Paleolithic era to the present day.
