Permanent exhibition of the Museum-Panorama "The Battle of Borodino"
About exhibition
The museum's central exhibit is the artistic panorama "Borodino", one of the largest panoramas in the world (115 metres long and 15 metres high). It was painted by the outstanding Russian battle painter Franz Roubaud in 1912, for the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Borodino. A foreground with a terrain relief, special lighting, and the circular arrangement of the painted canvas create for visitors the illusion of real natural space and military action. The panorama depicts the decisive moment of the battle between the Russian and French armies on 7 September 1812. The museum houses an extensive collection of items from 1812, including works of battle painting and decorative and applied arts, weapons, uniforms and equipment, and objects of military life of the Russian and French armies.
