Permanent exhibition of the V. P. Savinykh Space Center
About exhibition
The 'Manned Spaceflight' hall introduces visitors to the history of space exploration and the life of cosmonauts on the International Space Station. The 'Space Exploration' hall features globes of the Moon and Mars, samples of minerals that may be found on other planets, spacecraft components, solar panels, and models of launch vehicles and active Russian satellites. The 'Vyatka Cosmonauts' hall provides materials dedicated to the world's 100th cosmonaut and the 50th cosmonaut of the USSR, V. P. Savinykh. His story is a vivid example of how a simple boy from the provinces, through hard work and perseverance, was able to reach the greatest heights. In 1981 he flew into space for the first time, where, together with V. V. Kovalenok, he worked on the Salyut-6 station and distinguished himself admirably. Four years later he was selected for the special crew to salvage the Salyut-7 station, which had unexpectedly lost control and communications with Earth. A subsequent flight earned him the title Hero of Bulgaria.
