Permanent exhibition of the Space Center
About exhibition
Visit on your own (without guided tours) the Viktor Petrovich Savinykh Space Center! The "Manned Spaceflight" hall introduces visitors to the history of space exploration and the life of cosmonauts on the International Space Station. The "Space Exploration" hall displays globes of the Moon and Mars, samples of minerals that may be found on other planets, components of spacecraft, solar panels, models of launch vehicles and active Russian satellites. The "Son of the Vyatka Land" hall offers materials dedicated to the 100th cosmonaut in the world, the 50th cosmonaut of the USSR, Viktor Petrovich Savinykh. His story is a vivid example of how an ordinary boy from the provinces, through hard work and perseverance, can reach the greatest heights. In 1981 V. P. Savinykh flew into space for the first time, where he worked with V. V. Kovalenok on the Salyut-6 station and distinguished himself. Four years later he was chosen for a special crew to rescue the Salyut-7 station, which had unexpectedly lost control and contact with Earth. This was followed by another spaceflight, after which the Vyatka cosmonaut was awarded the title Hero of Bulgaria.
