Permanent exhibition 'Ceramics of Dagestan'
About exhibition
A unique collection of ceramics reveals how the artistic traditions of crafts from different districts of the republic were shaped by history, cults, beliefs and the lifestyle of the artisans. The exhibits allow visitors to trace ancient traditions passed down through generations and the characteristic features of items from the villages of Ispik, Sulevkent, Dzhuli and Balkhar. The exhibition explains methods of modeling, decorating and firing, the functions of clay objects, and presents the museum's earliest examples of pottery — a thin-walled cup and a small pot from the Ginchin burial ground (mid-3rd to the first half of the 1st millennium BC) — as well as ceramic toys by the Balkhar craftswoman Zubaydat Umalaeva, Honored Worker of Arts of Dagestan and member of the Union of Artists of Russia.
