Permanent exhibition of the V. I. Chuikov House-Museum

Vasily Ivanovich Chuikov is rightly regarded as one of the outstanding Soviet military leaders. Born into a peasant family, he became a regimental commander already during the Civil War. From 1940 to 1942 Chuikov served as a military attaché in China. Chuikov gained fame for the heroic defense of Stalingrad. The memorial V. I. Chuikov House-Museum was opened on May 17, 1980, in the Chuikov family home in the presence of the Marshal. On September 4, 2013, after reconstruction, the ceremonial opening of the museum’s new building took place. The museum consists of the family home, the Gallery of Local Heroes, and an exhibition hall. The family home is the memorial part of the exhibition dedicated to the Chuikov family and vividly conveys the atmosphere in which the future Marshal of the Soviet Union was born and raised. Household items, furniture, and the personal belongings of Ivan Ionovich and Elizaveta Fedorovna Chuikov, as well as their portraits by the Soviet artist and two-time Stalin Prize laureate A. A. Gorpenko, are on display here. The Gallery of Local Heroes features portraits of seven Heroes of the Soviet Union who were born in the Serebryano-Prudsky area. The museum’s exhibition hall houses displays that tell the story of the life and activities of this legendary native. Unique documents, V. I. Chuikov’s personal effects, photographs, gifts, souvenirs, and congratulatory letters are presented here. In addition, visitors can see on the museum grounds a bust of V. I. Chuikov donated by M. L. Serdyukov, the author of the “Alley of Russian Glory” project.
