In March 1981 the hundredth cosmonaut in the world was launched into orbit; he was Viktor Petrovich Savinykh, a native of the Orichevsky District in Kirov Oblast. During his life he made three spaceflights, was twice awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union, earned a Doctor of Technical Sciences degree, was elected an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and served as rector and later as president of the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography. At the same time, Viktor Petrovich never forgot his small homeland, making a significant contribution to the development of the city of Kirov and Kirov Oblast. The exhibition is timed to coincide with Viktor Petrovich Savinykh's 85th birthday. It is based on materials from the collections of the K. E. Tsiolkovsky Museum of Aviation and Cosmonautics and from V. P. Savinykh's personal archive. The exhibition presents the main facts of the biography of the 100th cosmonaut, his influence on art, on the development of science and technology, and on interest in cosmonautics in Kirov and Kirov Oblast.
