Main exhibition of the National Museum
About exhibition
The National Museum's exhibition comprises 10 halls and covers the history of North Ossetia from the Stone Age to the mid-1980s. Visitors can learn about the world-famous Koban culture (Late Bronze Age, 2nd century BC), the history of the Alanic state (1st–14th centuries), and artifacts from the historical-architectural complex 'City of the Dead'. The daily life and culture of mountain Ossetia are also richly represented in the exhibition. The National Museum of North Ossetia is a treasure trove for specialists in historic clothing — here one can see national costumes preserved in their original condition. One of the museum's halls is devoted to the history of Ossetia's incorporation into Russia and to the cultural and political life of the republic in the 18th–20th centuries. The Great Patriotic War hall won't leave anyone unmoved: the exhibition includes personal belongings and unique documents of commanders Issa Pliyev, Khadzhi-Umar Mamsurov, Georgy Khetagurov and other valiant warriors of the republic. About 90,000 residents of North Ossetia went to the front. The post-war period hall tells of the rise of industry and agriculture and of the republic's cultural and sporting achievements.
