About exhibition
The Museum of Industry and Art has, since the early 20th century, rightly been considered one of the best collection museums in Russia. Its founder was the Ivanovo‑Voznesensk factory owner, philanthropist and collector Dmitry Gennadyevich Burylin. The grand opening took place on December 26, 1914. The museum offers visitors the following permanent exhibitions: "Arsenal" – items from the collection of cold weapons and firearms from around the world, from the 14th–15th centuries to the second half of the 20th century, including armor of Russian warriors from the 14th century, 18th‑century samurai armor, and historical reconstructions; "Golden Treasury", which presents ecclesiastical items, coins, medals and orders made of precious metals, as well as personal belongings of the Bukhara emir Alim Khan; "European Collection" demonstrates the historical and cultural development of the countries of the European continent; "Reading Room of the D. G. Burylin Library" tells the story of the creation of the library within the museum. The story of the acquaintance between L. N. Tolstoy and D. G. Burylin is presented in the exhibition "History of the Tolstoy Room"; "D. G. Burylin's Study" – the opening of this exhibition at the Museum of Industry and Art is a tribute to the man who donated the museum to the city and its residents a hundred years ago. The study is maintained in the spirit of the Art Nouveau era with elements of eclecticism. The memorial section contains a partial reconstruction of D. G. Burylin's workplace. The exhibition section includes photo‑documentary sources and items from unique collections.
