Main exhibition of the Ivanovo Chintz Museum
About exhibition
A unique textile collection numbering half a million items forms the basis of the museum's exhibition. The museum is housed in the family home of Dmitry Gennadyevich Burylin, built in the early 20th century in the Art Nouveau style. In the mansion's courtyard there are former utility buildings that now contain additional exhibition spaces, as well as storage facilities and a library. The main exhibition 'Ivanovo Textile. History and Modernity' tells the story of the development of production from ancient times to the present. The dominant idea of the exhibition is to present Ivanovo chintzes as a form of decorative and applied art that preserves and develops the traditions of folk ornament. Samples of Ivanovo chintz reveal a significant layer of folk creativity in the artistic decoration of fabrics and allow one to trace the development of a distinct style - bright, festive, decorative - characteristic of Ivanovo textiles.
