Main exhibition of the Andrei Bely Memorial Apartment

About exhibition

The Andrei Bely Memorial Apartment on the Arbat is the only museum in the world dedicated to the poet, writer, philosopher, theorist of Symbolism and anthroposophist-mystic Andrei Bely (real name – Boris Nikolaevich Bugaev). The museum is located at building No. 55 on the corner of the Arbat and Denezhny Lane, in an apartment on the third floor. Andrei Bely was born in this apartment and lived here for 26 years — from his birth until 1906. The exhibition occupies the residential part of the apartment, consisting of the nursery, the future writer’s mother's room, and his father's study. In the formal (parade) half were the dining room, with windows facing Denezhny Lane, and the living room with a small corner balcony. The museum's exhibition includes photographic portraits of A. Bely and his famous contemporaries — A. A. Blok, Z. N. Gippius, D. S. Merezhkovsky, M. A. Voloshin, V. I. Ivanov, V. S. Solovyov — as well as covers of books and magazines from the early 20th century, views of old Moscow, and memorial items that belonged to A. Bely.
