Main Exhibition of the State Historical Museum
About exhibition
For almost one and a half centuries the majestic building of the Historical Museum has adorned Moscow's Red Square; it was built in 1875–1883 specifically to house Russia's national treasury. The Historical Museum is dedicated to the history and culture of Russia from ancient times to the present day. The State Historical Museum's collection comprises more than 4.5 million museum objects. The main exhibition features many rare items: from mammoth tusks brought from Siberia and a marble Greek sarcophagus to faience sculptures by M. A. Vrubel and paintings by I. E. Repin.
