Main exhibition of the Velimir Khlebnikov House Museum
About exhibition
The only museum in the world dedicated to the poet opened in 1993 and is located in the former revenue house of Polyakov on Sverdlov Street (formerly Bolshaya Demidovskaya), in the Astrakhan apartment of the poet's parents. Velimir's ancestors were merchants and philanthropists. His father, Vladimir Alekseevich, was one of the founders of the Astrakhan Nature Reserve. The museum rooms retain parquet floors, tiled stoves, and stucco elements on the ceilings. The exhibition contains many original items: rare documents and photographs, a library, furniture, and Velimir's personal belongings. They were donated by the poet's nephew, Mai Miturich, People's Artist of Russia. The exhibition includes paintings by Vera Khlebnikova and graphic works by Pyotr Miturich. The museum's library connects Khlebnikov scholars in Astrakhan with researchers from France, Italy, the USA, Germany, Finland, Japan and other countries. Since 2014 the museum has hosted the multimedia project 'Hunger of Space, or Velimir's Room'.
