Main exhibition of the I. S. Turgenev House-Museum
About exhibition
The I. S. Turgenev House-Museum invites visitors to explore the exhibition opened after a historical reconstruction in 2018. It presents items of fine and decorative-applied arts (painting, graphic art, sculpture, porcelain, bronze, textiles, furniture, lighting fixtures), as well as books, documents, manuscripts, and photographs. Among the exhibits are lifetime portraits of Ivan Turgenev, first publications and editions of his works, and illustrations for them. A special place is occupied by memorial belongings that belonged to the writer and his close circle, including more than 10 autographs. The Empire-style mansion was designated a cultural heritage site in the 1960s. Ivan Turgenev lived here, and this estate and its inhabitants inspired him to write the story "Mumu." Thanks to the Government of Moscow and with the support of the Department of Culture and the Department for Cultural Heritage of the city of Moscow, the mansion underwent scientific restoration and the grounds were reconstructed in a short time, and a new museum exhibition was created.
