Photo exhibition 'Cinema at the Edge of the World'
About exhibition
In the year of the 70th anniversary of the formation of Magadan Oblast, the 'Gornyak' cinema celebrates its 75th anniversary. Today the 'Gornyak' cinema is a symbol of the 1960s. It is hard to imagine now how important an event the opening of a new cinema was in the past, in the 20th century. The photo exhibition tells the story of the cinema, which was reconstructed from the recollections of long-time residents, notes from the newspaper "Sovetskaya Kolyma", and surviving documents. Construction of the cinema began in August 1947, and the opening ceremony was held on September 26, 1948. From the photographs presented at the exhibition, it is possible to see how the cinema's exterior appearance and interior decoration have changed over 75 years. The oldest cinema has always been a favorite place of leisure for Magadan residents of all ages.
