About exhibition
The combined ticket includes admission to the Assumption (Uspensky) Cathedral, the Dmitrievsky (St. Demetrius) Cathedral, the Historical Museum, the House-Museum of the Stoletov Brothers, the “Old Vladimir” exhibition, and the Museum of Crystal and Glass (18th–21st centuries). The Assumption Cathedral is one of Vladimir’s oldest buildings. Its interior preserves fragments of monumental painting from the 12th–19th centuries, including frescoes by Andrei Rublev. The Dmitrievsky Cathedral impresses with its monumentality and richly carved decoration. The church’s façades are adorned with hundreds of bas-reliefs on biblical and mythological themes. The cathedral still contains 12th-century frescoes by Byzantine masters. The Historical Museum’s exhibition acquaints visitors with the period of greatest flourishing of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality. Here you can see a unique hoard of silver ornaments hidden during the storming of the city by Batu’s army in 1238. The Stoletov Memorial Museum tells about the famous members of the Vladimir family — the liberator of Bulgaria, General Nikolai Stoletov, and the physicist Alexander Stoletov. Visitors can learn about provincial Vladimir by visiting the “Old Vladimir” museum located in the water tower. The unique collection of the Museum of Crystal introduces visitors to the history of glassmaking in Gus-Khrustalny.
